One of Halifax’s greatest exports is Gypsophilia, an award-winning sextet who start with the gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt and then add elements of tango, klezmer, funk, indie rock, New Orleans, and bebop. The group built a cult following of dance-lovers by throwing wild 1930s themed concerts in Nova Scotia. Now they have won four East Coast Music Awards and are selling out shows all over Canada and the U.S. This will be the fifth appearance for these JazzFest favourites. Gina Burgess violin, Alec Frith (guitar/percussion), Matt Myer (trumpet/keyboards), Nick Wilkinson (guitar), Adam Fine (bass), and Ross Burns (guitar/percussion).
